The Key Training I Have Completed and How It Specifically Relates to Business Analysis
Continuous professional development is an essential requirement of all business analysts. On this page I review the relevant training I have completed to date, and also any ongoing training.
Please keep scrolling to see a list of the training/qualifications, along with brief descriptions of their relevance to business analysis.
I am a lifelong, efficient learner and I enjoy learning. This is beneficial throughout a business analysis project, but especially at first during the discovery stage.
As well as the training mentioned here, I am also an avid reader on a broad range of subjects related to BA. I also enjoy watching YouTube videos to learn from experts in the field.
If you are interested in working with me, please check my current availability by visiting my contact page.
Ongoing Training
-
Microsoft Visio - I have used Visio before, but I'm wanting to improve my awareness of the built in templates/features as I have found process flows/models can be very effective for communicating ideas etc.
-
Microsoft Power BI - I would like to be able to efficiently visualise data without needing help to do so.
-
Microsoft Excel and SQL - I have used Excel throughout my career but to not much more than a basic level. Again here I would like to be able to analyse my own data - then visualise it with Power BI - without help to do so.
-
Artificial Intelligence - I have been keen to (try!) to catch up with AI for a while, and I am fascinated to discover how it may be used personally and professionally. It is important for BAs to be as up to speed as possible with the latest developments with AI.
Completed Training
-
Microsoft and Linked In - Business Analysis Career Essentials - I learned business analysis and modelling techniques during my degree and have used them throughout my career - but I wanted to update my knowledge and skills in this area. This was an excellent in-depth course with an exam at the end.
-
Code Academy - basic Python, basic SQL, data analysis - I really enjoy analysisng data but have only ever been able to do so to a basic extend without support - and data is becoming ever more important in every business. I believe these introductions and my ongoing training in these areas will really benefit me as a BA.
-
12 Week Full Time Computer Science - Subjects included networks, hardware, software, basic Scratch and python, Boolean operators, security, data management, cloud etc. I believe this knowledge will be useful to me as a BA - especially when working with developers etc.
-
BA Hons Business Administration and Management - 2:1 - a very comprehensive qualification that has proven to be an excellent foundation for me to build a business/customer focused career on.
-
HND Business and Marketing - Merit - very useful knowledge gained from this qualification given the importance of marketing in the product/project lifecycle. I really enjoy marketing and find it a very exciting stage.
-
Linked In UX Researcher Career Pathway - UX is one of the main focuses of the work of a BA, and I have had a great interest in the field since I first heard of it. I completed these UX pathways to start working as a UXD/UXR. Ultimately, I prefer the role of BA , but I learned so much of relevant benefit working in UX.
-
Linked In UX Designer Career Pathway
-
Linked In Instructional Designer Career Pathway - I completed this pathway while in a recent long term role with a distance learning college in the UK working on managing courses/qualifications for adults.
-
Level 4 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector - I believe these three adult education qualifications (this and the two below) and the subsequent teaching experienced gained have been very beneficial to me in my development as a BA. So much so, I have written a brief piece about it on my Examples page, here.
-
Level 3 Training Assessing and Quality Assurance - assessment and quality assurance are key requirements of a BA.
